Taunton Theatre Association
Trading as Taunton Brewhouse
Taunton Theatre Association (the company), trading as Taunton Brewhouse, has ceased to trade as of 31 October 2026.
The directors, having regard to the financial position of the company, have decided to take steps to place it into creditors’ voluntary liquidation (CVL).
What is a CVL?
A CVL is a formal process used when a company is insolvent – meaning its liabilities are greater than its assets, or it cannot pay its debts as they fall due. Licensed insolvency practitioners (the liquidators) are appointed by the company to take control, sell the company’s assets and distribute any proceeds to creditors.
PKF Francis Clark is assisting the directors in this regard. It is proposed that Nicholas Harris and Lucinda Coleman will be appointed joint liquidators of the company following a resolution to wind-up the company being passed by its directors.
What happens next?
We are working with the directors, who remain legally in control of the company until the proposed liquidators are appointed.
We are also in touch with Somerset County Council about the future of the Brewhouse site.
Both PKF Francis Clark and the directors are very aware of the importance of the Brewhouse theatre to the Taunton community and the legitimate public interest in this liquidation. We have been and are still doing what we can to minimise discontinuity and uncertainty.
What does this mean for creditors of the company?
A creditor is a person or business owed money by the company. The outcome for creditors of Taunton Theatre Association is currently uncertain.
The statement of affairs and associated documentation is being sent to creditors, together with a notice of deemed consent in relation to the nomination of liquidators. This correspondence includes details of how creditors can submit claims in the liquidation.
To enable efficient communication with creditors, we have set up a secure portal. The portal will be used to communicate future documents, which will be made available for creditors to view and download when appropriate.
The portal also enables creditors to submit their claim in the liquidation, provide supporting evidence and bank details. Each creditor has their own login details for the portal, which are detailed in their individual correspondence.
Once appointed, the liquidators will provide creditors with further information, including an estimated outcome for creditors in the liquidation.
As a result of the company’s closure, all performances scheduled to take place at the Brewhouse after Sunday 1 November have been cancelled and tickets for those performances will not be valid.
If you paid for your tickets by credit card (over £100), you may wish to contact your card provider to discuss making a claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (where applicable).
Alternatively, if you paid by debit card or credit card (under £100), you may be able to request a chargeback through your card issuer. Card providers will be able to advise on eligibility and the process for making a claim.

What does this mean for employees and volunteers of the company?
Sadly, all employees have now been made redundant. In a press release, the trustees expressed their gratitude to the charitable company’s staff, volunteers, donors and partners.
