Stuart Rogers

Partner, tax

Stuart is a technically outstanding corporate tax partner based in our Bristol office. Known for his precision, strategic thinking and deep expertise, Stuart advises fast-growing and large corporate groups on some of the most challenging tax issues they face – from international structuring and governance to high-value disputes with HMRC.

Clients value Stuart not only for his technical mastery but for his ability to guide them through complexity with confidence. He is frequently called upon to resolve multi-year tax enquiries, navigate HMRC’s Business Risk Review process and advise on tax assurance and governance frameworks for large businesses.

Stuart is a recognised thought leader in UK tax policy. He sits on the ICAEW Business Tax Committee, contributing to national discussions on tax legislation and compliance. He also writes regularly for the tax press and speaks at industry events on topics ranging from R&D tax relief to international tax reform.

Recent highlights include:

  • Successfully resolved a multi-year tax dispute with HMRC on behalf of a major multinational group, with over £8 million of tax at stake
  • Negotiated the resolution of multiple HMRC disputes for a start-up, focused on EIS and R&D tax credits, with more than £2 million at stake
  • Guided the UK sub-group of a global enterprise through HMRC’s Business Risk Review process, achieving a reduction in their risk grading from medium to low
  • Secured a positive outcome in a longstanding R&D tax credit enquiry for a high-profile South West business, involving over £500,000 in disputed tax
  • Achieved resolution in a complex R&D tax credit dispute for an advanced engineering firm in the South of England, with over £250,000 at stake

A chartered tax adviser, Stuart holds the CIOT Advanced Diploma in International Taxation and the Transfer Pricing Certificate. Outside of work, he’s a keen cyclist and enjoys exploring the region on two wheels.
