
John Endacott
Partner and head of wealth and succession

John is widely regarded as a leading national tax expert on family business, private client and property based activities.
He particularly specialises in:
- Capital gains tax reliefs
- Mitigating inheritance tax, especially for property businesses and owner managed businesses
- Trading status disputes and investment vs non-investment considerations
John began his career as a general practice accountant in South Wales before specialising in corporate tax with two Big 4 firms in Bristol. He joined PKF Francis Clark in 1997 and became a tax partner in 1998, first in Truro and then in Exeter and later in Bristol. John has experience of personally acting as an executor, attorney, company director and as a professional and charity trustee, over more than 25 years.
A graduate of Cardiff University Business School, John is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He was awarded fellowship in the latter in 2003 for a 25,000 word thesis on capital gains tax taper relief. John’s standing in the tax profession has been acknowledged by various awards and roles within both institutes.
John has written more than 70 articles for tax specialist publications over the last 25 years. He is the author of five editions of “Furnished Holiday Lettings – A Tax Guide” and co-author of various books on capital gains tax. John has presented at national tax conferences and seminars over the last 20 years, on capital gains tax, partnerships and holiday lettings. In 2012, he was named tax writer of the year.
John is a trusted speaker on wealth and succession planning, helping clients and advisers through the changing rules of inheritance tax. He also leads PKF Francis Clark’s Budget webinars, sharing updates on tax changes and what they mean for individuals and businesses.
