Microwave Amps acquired by ScandiNova Systems
A hi-tech Bristol-based manufacturer has been acquired by an international buyer.
Microwave Amps designs and manufactures a range of bespoke solid-state radio and microwave frequency amplifiers for the security, scientific, medical and avionics sectors. A successful exporter to markets including Europe and Canada, its products are used on land and sea, in the air and in orbit.
The company, which employs more than 20 people at its base in Bedminster, has been acquired by ScandiNova Systems AB, a Swedish provider of high-end pulsed power systems.
A team at PKF Francis Clark – comprising Tom Hicks, Andrew Killick and Becky Parnall – supported the shareholders throughout the process, including exploring their options, marketing the business, selecting the preferred buyer and leading negotiations.
We are all very glad that we appointed PKF Francis Clark to guide us through this process and consider ourselves fortunate to have had Tom and his team on our side.
Tom Hicks, corporate finance associate director, said: “Microwave Amps is well-established as a highly successful specialist manufacturer with a diversified customer base. It’s been a pleasure working with the founders to secure their legacy and we wish them all the best for the future. Microwave Amps represents an excellent strategic acquisition for ScandiNova, who are ideally placed to capitalise on the opportunities that exist.”
Neil Richardson, managing director of Microwave Amps, said: “I am very pleased with this important development and proud to be a part of the ScandiNova group. This collaboration will strengthen our company’s future growth and open up exciting market opportunities.”
He added: “We are all very glad that we appointed PKF Francis Clark to guide us through this process and consider ourselves fortunate to have had Tom and his team on our side. They have dealt with us personably throughout and their hard work, patience and professionalism were instrumental in bringing the deal to a successful conclusion.”
Niklas Edling, CEO of ScandiNova, said: “We are delighted to welcome Microwave Amps to the ScandiNova family. This acquisition perfectly aligns with our strategy of enhancing our position in integrated power systems for medtech, industry and science customers. Microwave Amps’ expertise and products in RF amplifiers will significantly boost our offering in RF systems and contribute to our commitment to excellence.”
A team at Freeths in Bristol – Emily Settle, Lottie Hugo, Ed Chapman and Charlotte Collard – provided legal advice to the shareholders.
