PKF Francis Clark advises Low Carbon on landmark solar transactions

PKF Francis Clark is delighted to announce that it has acted as lead corporate finance adviser to Low Carbon on the sale of the largest portfolio of consented solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK.

The PKF energy team, which specialises in UK renewable energy transactions, advised on the following disposals, which ran concurrently:

Gate Burton Energy Park in Lincolnshire is the largest capacity single solar project ever sold in the UK. With a capacity of over 500 MW solar and battery storage, once operational Gate Burton will have the capacity to deliver clean electricity to power around 160,000 homes annually. The development also enables flexibility to the grid through co-located battery storage, essential to clean energy transition by reducing the reliance on fossil fuel back-up.

These two landmark deals have a combined capacity of over 1GW. Together the projects will generate enough energy to power 260,000 homes, aligning with Low Carbon’s goal to create a sustainable and zero-carbon future.

PKF Francis Clark’s corporate finance team has a strong track record of advising on energy and renewables deals, combining deep sector knowledge with hands-on deal execution expertise.

Rich Harris, corporate finance director at PKF Francis Clark, said: “We were delighted to act for Low Carbon on these two fantastic transactions. Throughout the process, we saw good levels of appetite from a number of high quality buyers, which is testament to the quality of the projects which Low Carbon has developed.

“In Total Energies and EDF Power Solutions we found experienced buyers who were well placed to navigate market challenges, such as the ongoing Gate 2 process, to ensure completion on all projects was achieved in a timely manner.”

Angus Hunter, corporate finance associate director at PKF Francis Clark, added: “We’re proud to have supported Low Carbon on these two landmark transactions, which reflects the continued strength and resilience of the UK renewables sector. The successful outcome is a credit to the deal teams involved and Low Carbon’s disciplined approach to project delivery and strategic partnerships.”

Paul Allam, investment director at Low Carbon, said: “Rich and the energy team at PKF acted as lead adviser to Low Carbon from the outset of these two landmark transactions through to successful completion. Their deep understanding of the UK renewables sector and investor landscape was instrumental in ensuring both deals progressed efficiently and closed on schedule. It was a pleasure working with the team, whose expertise and commitment helped deliver two fantastic outcomes.”
