Further changes to imports and exports with the EU from 1 January 2022
From 1 January 2022 there will be further changes introduced for trade with the EU.
1 January 2022
- Import declarations will be required for all goods and can no longer be deferred
- Customs checks begin on imports from EU
- Prepare to make Customs declarations at the time of importation and for potential physical inspections
- Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) goes live for imports from EU to GB
- GVMS applies to all UK ports without inventory linked systems such as Dover, Eurotunnel and Holyhead
- GVMS introduced to capture details of vehicles and enable faster clearance
- This will be the responsibility of the haulier (has been tested for GB to NI movements)
- Pre-notification requirements and documentary checks for certain agri-products including animal origin, certain by-products and high risk food of animal origin
- Register for IPAFFS (Import of products, animals, food and feed system) before the end of 2021 https://www.gov.uk/guidance/import-of-products-animals-food-and-feed-system#register-for-ipaffs
- Ensure you have physical pre-notification evidence from 1 January
- Ensure goods travel through an official Border Control Post Port
1 July 2022
- ENS Safety and Security Declarations required for imports
- ENS is the responsibility of the haulier
- Export Health Certificate (EHC) requirements for imports of agri-foods
- Check the appropriate EHC has been obtained prior to shipment and obtain a copy for IPAFFS
- Ensure your goods travel through an official Border Control Post port
- Ensure shipments are accompanied by physical Export Health Certificates
- Pre-notification and Phytosanitary Certificates for plant, plant products and timber-based products
- Register as an importer on PEACH (Procedure for Electronic Application for Certificates from the Horticultural Marketing Inspectorate)
- Receive Phytosanitary certificates provided by the supplier
- Ensure goods travel with original phytosanitary certificates
- Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) checks on animal and animal products, plants and plant products at Border Control Posts
1 September 2022
- Certification and physical checks will be introduced for all dairy products
1 November 2022
- Certification and physical checks will be introduced for all remaining regulated products of animal origin, including composite products and fish products

- Please be aware that for the importation of animals, animal products, food and feed of non-animal origin and plants into the European Union, your customer may need to provide pre-notification on the EU TRACES system https://ec.europa.eu/food/animals/traces_en
