Meet the payroll team – Eve Iunco

Headshot of Eve Iunco.

Our team has decades of experience and the inside track on how to make payroll really work for your company. We took the opportunity to get to know Eve Iunco, head of payroll services for the west region.

Since leaving school, I have always worked in a finance role. When living in South Africa for 10 years (1983-1993), I was a payroll administrator for a large company processing client payrolls. On returning to the UK, I worked for a private kitchen retailer initially as a bookkeeper, working my way up to managing director. At the same time, I was company secretary in my own business (jewellers) run with my husband. In 2010, I moved to PKF Francis Clark as payroll manager of only a small team based in our then, Newton Abbot office. Over the last 14 years, I have helped build up the team into a large department processing a range of client payrolls and becoming head of payroll services for the West Region.

What do you do in your role?

I oversee a large department of payroll professionals, dealing with the logistics of processing more than 500 client payrolls per month. Our clients range from a husband and wife team to large companies who employ hundreds of people. It takes a great deal of organisational skill and attention to detail – being head of payroll means problem solving and strong leadership which plays to my strengths.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy the diversity of payroll, and the ever-changing legislation gives a constant challenge. I always feel payroll people are an individual breed; they are dedicated and passionate about what they do, and are a very tight community. It can be an extremely stressful job with little praise but our reward is paying people correctly and on-time…You don’t mess with people’s money! In the past few years, payroll has become a more recognised profession, during the recent pandemic, we were amongst the front line workers keeping people paid throughout furlough. I count myself in a favourable position to work amongst such dedicated people.

What attracted you to PKF Francis Clark?

Having been a client for many years in two separate capacities, I was well versed in the professionalism and dedication to client welfare that PKF Francis Clark offered. When given the opportunity to join them as a staff member there was no hesitation.

What do you like doing outside of work?

I love the sea, being either in it, on it or under it (I’m an advanced scuba diver). However, relaxing with a good book and good wine is also a must!
